Life Change: why is it so hard?

Mark Twain once wrote: "the only person who like change is a baby with a wet diaper!"

Why is making changes in our lives so hard? Even if it is good for us? Even if we are convinced we absolutely must change?

Sometimes we change small things fairly easy, like changing the clocks or the way we drive to work. But, making lasting life change in important ways can be very hard.

7 Reasons Why we don't like change

  • We are comfortable, used to the old way of doing things.
  • We are selfish, the old way seems to serve us
  • It is unnatural (to our old selves.
  • Change can be very uncomfortable.
  • The new way is unknown
  • Change requires energy to be expended, we have to exert ourselves.
  • Inertia: it is easier to stay as we are.

The bottom line is, we don't change because we are accustomed to living the way we always have lived, even if the old way hasn't served us well.

Life Changers is devoted to helping people change.
Recently, I reviewed Ephesians 4 in the New Testament, which gives us clear guidance about how God helps people change.

1. We are called to live holy, loving lives of faith and obedience. (verses 1-3)
2. Since none of us is perfect, we all need to be TRANSFORMED or changed (verses 17-22)
3. We can't do this on our own: God helps us (verses 7-13)
4. We have a responsibility to do our part: to work at change by leaving the old patterns,
embracing truth, and learning new healthy ways of living and loving.

Life Changers' Staff: committed to helping you change and succeed.
We seek to help by being:

  • example - we are growing and changing, too
  • coach - we will motivate, encourage and give expertise
  • guide - we will help you find God's way for you.
